La Garnatilla - the village....

A few minutes walk downhill from Villa Tranquila, is the pretty, timeless, whitewashed village of La Garnatilla, of Moorish origin with it`s Mineral water Springs, still used today and ancient Washing Basins, nestling among the terraced hillsides of olives and almonds.

The Church bell still rings as it has done since the eighteenth century.

There are no shops in the village and the bar closed after the death of the last proprietor and didn't reopen.  These days of course, provisions are brought to the village not by donkey cart but by modern vans.
Fresh bread, fish, meat, vegetables, gas etc. and there is a mobile library once a week.  Now and again a whole village shop on the back of a lorry arrives in the village square and sets up to trade for the day.
Life passes slowly here,  relaxing and restful away from the stresses of modern life.

The bus from Motril arrives early in the morning dropping off the agricultural workers then leaves with  the villagers wanting to go to the market or Motril shops and brings them back in time for a late lunch and the afternoon siesta, then leaves again for Motril but doesn't return until the following morning.

The Patron Saint of La Garnatilla, San Cecilio, is honoured by a Fiesta held over the last weekend in the month of July every year.  The saint is carried high around the village in a procession along with the Virgin Mary on the Sunday evening at the end of the weekend.
Sunday lunchtime is celebrated with a giant paella free to all and visitors are especially welcome.

Walk the wild flower covered hills in the Spring to see the rare orchids.  Stroll through the almond and olive groves and forget the rest of the world for  while.

Inside Villa Tranquila....

The door from the Covered Terrace opens into the large Sitting / Dining Room.

A wood burner stove keeps the villa warm in Winter but a gas fire is useful for chilly mornings if needed.

The Kitchen area is separated from the Dining area by a traditionally Spanish Bar.

Fly screens are fitted on all windows and doors.

The large family bathroom also houses the dishwasher and washing machine.

There are three Bedrooms.

The Master Bedroom has a large en-suite Shower Room.

A door from the en-suite Shower Room leads out onto the Pool area for easy Summer access.

Villa Tranquila.....

Situated in the lower foothills of the Sierra de Lujar,  above the charming white-washed village of La Garnatilla, the house and it's 5,000 sq. metres of natural hillside lie in an area almost unchanged for centuries.

The views are panoramic - walk up in the Spring to see the wild flowers growing in the hills.
Look down to the Mediterranean's sun drenched beaches.

There is very little light pollution and the skies at night are glittering with stars, heavenly romantic.

The pool measures 3m x 4m and can be floodlit at night.

The Terrace provides welcome relief from the hot summer sun and to dine 'al fresco' on a warm summer's evening is pure luxury.

To Breakfast on the covered Terrace in the warm midwinter sun is truly enchanting.

The Villa is fenced from the lane which runs up to the Cemetery at the top of the hill.  There is one villa below the Cemetery where the lane ends.
Quiet and Peaceful but not isolated, Villa Tranquila is the last house before the Cemetery.
There are neighbours to the village side of Villa Tranquila but the villa is not overlooked.
The south side of the property is open to the terraced hillside.
